Good morning, New York. The Giants are alone in first after Deonte Banks’ wild walk-off, Cam Schlittler takes the ball with the Yankees down 1-0, and the Jets are left searching for answers at 1-3.

Jaxson Dart went down for the season in Week 2, and few—if any—expected the Giants to be in first place after Week 4. Yet here they are after Deonte Banks, flagged for pass interference moments earlier, then answered with a 98-yard pick-six to seal a wild 36-24 win over Arizona at MetLife. New York erased an 11-point deficit, improved to 3-1 for the first time since 2022 and stayed unbeaten at home.
Jameis being Jameis: The fill-in starter threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns—along with two interceptions—while completing 62% of his passes.
Nabers back: Malik Nabers caught six balls for 112 yards and a touchdown, more than doubling his season yardage in one afternoon.
Winning ugly: “It wasn’t the most beautiful game, as far as playing perfectly. It was a winning game,” John Harbaugh said. “That’s what winning teams do: They find ways to win games.”
Trop Test
Two days after Drew Rasmussen carried a no-hit bid into the eighth inning in Tampa Bay’s 1-0 Game 1 win, the Yankees turn to Cam Schlittler tonight looking to even the ALDS before it returns to the Bronx. Schlittler struck out 16, walked one and allowed four runs in 13 innings over two Tropicana Field starts this season.
Another ace: Rasmussen showed why he is Tampa Bay’s ace Saturday. Tonight brings another challenge in Freddy Peralta, the September AL Pitcher of the Month after five straight wins and a 0.96 ERA to close the regular season.
Checked swing: Austin Wells supplied the Yankees’ only hit Saturday, then was thrown out trying to stretch his eighth-inning double into a triple—the final out of the game. Never make the first or third out at third base
Jets Get Bear-ied
The Jets dropped to 1-3 after Chicago hogged the ball for nearly 43 minutes in a 23-12 loss. New York produced only 157 total yards, went 0-for-7 on third down and turned two takeaways—including Minkah Fitzpatrick’s interception, its first of the season—into just six points.
No possession, no chance: The Jets offense barely got on the field as Chicago ran 89 plays and picked up 34 first downs.
Too little offense: Geno Smith completed 8 of 15 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown. His 58-yard strike to Isaiah Williams was the Jets’ lone offensive score.
Muster up: “We all have to muster up something inside to get this turned in the right direction,” Aaron Glenn said after the Bears outgained the Jets 492-157 and held the ball for 42:45.
On This Day
On Oct. 5, 1953, Billy Martin’s walk-off single beat the Brooklyn Dodgers in Game 6, giving the Yankees their 16th World Series title—and a record fifth straight championship
